Lab 10

Project demo

Show the system you and your partner built, working on its own from power-on, and answer questions about how it works, from the boot up to the parts on the header.

Modules this lab uses

What you need

  • Your station's board and power supply, with the project's boot media
  • Your project's parts, wired and tested
  • The serial console, ready in case anything stops

Steps

  1. Before the demo, check the project against the final project's requirements: at least two of the course's buses, started on boot as a service, survives having its power pulled, and a README another student could rebuild it from.
  2. Start the demo from power-off: plug in the supply and let the system start without typing anything.
  3. Show each bus doing its job.
  4. Pull the power while it runs, plug it back in, and show that it comes back on its own.
  5. Answer questions about it. Each of you answers on your own.

What to measure

  • How long the system takes from power-on until it is doing its job.
  • Whether it comes back after the power is pulled, every time you try.

What you hand in

  • The demo.
  • After the demo, the pair's project report (the design and what you measured) and the project's repository with its README, by the date your instructor sets.

If it goes wrong

Read the console: it tells you which stage stopped. Your recovery runbook from lab 9 and when it will not boot on your bench page bring the board back.
